Research Opportunities
The Centre for the Integrative Study of Animal Behavior (CISAB) currently supports a wide range of student projects on behaviour in birds, lizards, macropod marsupials, spiders, preying mantids and marine mammals. This work involves laboratory experiments with captive populations, field work at several sites in Australia and New Zealand, and comparative analyses of published data sets. We are also interested in developing new techniques for the study of behaviour. Applications are welcome from students interested in pursuing postgraduate degrees at either the Masters or PhD level. Students associated with the Centre pursue degrees in Brain, Behaviour and Evolution (MSc, PhD). |

| Students associated with the Centre will have access to world-class facilities: | |
As part of a consortium with UTS, Sydney University and the University of New South Wales,
Macquarie has leased buildings at Chowder Bay to develop a world-class Marine Science research
and education facility. |

| We have also recently been invited to use the facilities of Monarto Zoological Park in South Australia. This gives us access to a much wider range of species, housed in over 1000 hectares of natural open-range habitat, and opens up new opportunities for field work. |

Naturally, there are extensive facilities on campus for student research. For example, the Macquarie University Animal Behaviour Facility, which houses marsupials, lizards, insects, spiders and birds in outdoor enclosures, provides excellent opportunities for observation and experimentation in a naturalistic setting. There are also indoor facilities, which have been specifically designed for behavioral testing, for use in experiments requiring a controlled environment.
