Keynote speakers for Memphis in the First Two Millennia ~
 
Dr Barta specializes in the history and archaeology of Egypt in the 3rd  and 2nd  millennia BCE, focusing especially on the development of Old Kingdom tombs situated at Abusir and Saqqara.
 
BEATRIX GESSLER-LöHR
Dr Gessler-Löhr’s research concerns the Necropolis of Saqqara, especially in the 18th Dynasty during the pre-Amarna period, concentrating on material from the tombs of officials that is housed in museums world-wide, including stelae, pyramidia and all kinds of grave goods. Her "excavations in museums" are enlarging our knowledge of the Memphite population during the 18th Dynasty and are made in addition to results gained from various excavations in Saqqara, mainly the pre-Amarna tombs found by Dr Alain Zivie.
 
YVONNE HARPUR
Dr Harpur's special interests are in the fields of art, architecture and chronology of Old Kingdom Egypt. As Field Director of the Oxford Expedition to Egypt (OEE) since 1989, she has worked in various Memphite cemeteries, and written books and articles dealing with Old Kingdom monuments at Maidum and Saqqara in particular. Her most recent project is a new book-series entitled 'Egypt in Miniature', and a related scene-details database that encompasses scene decoration in tombs and on displaced blocks from Old Kingdom sites throughout Egypt.
 
Dr Jeffreys’ research is devoted to landscape archaeology, and in particular, the natural and man-made environments of the Nile Valley and Delta.  He has recently completed a comprehensive survey of the Memphite region.
 
AUDRAN LABROUSSE
French Archaeological Mission at Saqqara
Director of Research at the French National Centre of Scientific Research (CNRS), Dr Audran Labrousse has excavated extensively at Saqqara and has uncovered the remains of many royal structures dating from the Old Kingdom period.
 
JAROMIR MALEK
Griffith Institute, University of Oxford
Dr Malek is editor of the Topographical Bibliography of Ancient Egyptian Hieroglyphic Texts, Statues, Reliefs and Paintings at the Griffith Institute, Oxford, and has excavated at several sites, including Abusir, Saqqara and Memphis.
 
ADELA OPPENHEIM
Dr Oppenheim is a specialist in the art of the Middle Kingdom, especially that associated with the pyramid complex of Senwosret III at Dahshur.
 
ALAIN ZIVIE
Dr Zivie has located and recorded many New Kingdom tombs at Saqqara, including that of Maia, nurse to Tutankhamun, and the Amarna period tomb of Raya.
