The Australian Centre for Egyptology was established in 1989 in the Department of Ancient History, Macquarie University, to promote, plan, and co-ordinate archaeological fieldwork undertaken in Egypt by Australian scholars and students. Staff at the Centre includes: Professor Naguib Kanawati, Associate Professor Boyo Ockinga, Dr Christiana Köhler, and Dr Ann McFarlane.
 
The excavation work of the Centre takes place at many sites throughout Egypt, including Helwan, Saqqara, Giza, Meir, Tehna, Deir el-Gebrawi, and Dra Abu el-Naga, Thebes.
